Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill met Accoyo Legacy several years ago and just fell in love with this beautiful alpaca fibre. It is soft. buttery to touch and we know it is grown by healthy alpacas that are adored by their owner, Ron Condon.
Ron is a bit of a legend in the Australian Alpaca world and his passion for his animals runs deep.
I have been breeding alpacas for over 30 years and in that time my
enthusiasm for these remarkable creatures has not diminished. The love
affair began in Peru where alpaca is known as the “fibre of the gods”.
A chance meeting with Don Julio Barreda, the godfather of Peruvian
alpaca breeders, led me on a journey to preserve and advance his
lifelong quest to redefine the alpaca. Barreda’s vision to create
alpacas with perfect harmony in form and function dates back to 1946.
He was relentless in his pursuit of genetic excellence, rigorously
selecting and refining his bloodlines. Today, Barreda’s Accoyo
bloodlines are recognised and praised around the world. Sadly Don
Julio is no longer with us but his passion and vision lives on through

Isabel and I can’t grow enough fibre for all of our yarns, so it wonderful to be able to meet other passionate people like Ron. We have visited Ron’s farm on many occassions, we have helped at shearing time and it evident in all that Ron does that the animals are his love, his passion and he just cherishes what he does.
