Description
Field of Dreams – DK/ 8 ply is a collaborative yarn with The Purlbox girls.
When two businesses join together in collaboration then wonderful things can happen. The Field of Dreams is an example of just that.
This yarn brings together three fibre in a unique and unusual blend. We designed the yarn with Australia in mind, from beginning to end. From the names of the colours, to the fibres used. This is a wonderful yarn.
The Fibre:
Field of Dreams – DK/ 8 ply uses Polwarth from the Dennis family. This is combined with gorgeously silky soft suri alpaca and linen. The linen used is from Belgium and is one of the most sustainable fibres in the world.
The suri and linen make this the ideal yarn for summer and autumn knitting. The varied fibres have reacted wonderfully with the dyes to create very different effects that all work well together. And the drape, well it is just divine.
The Process:
These 3 fibres have been combined on site and processed in the most environmentally way. Please check out our blog pages for more information about how we press here, at Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill.
Once we had the yarn, the Purlbox girls got their colour magic happening. Kylie created a colour palate that brought out the best of the fibres, the unique blend and the Australian landscape.
We then employed the best, and last, commercial dye house in Australia to bring the colours to life. Meeting strict EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) the dye house set about testing, refining and ultimately dying the yarn into the stunning colours that you see today.
This was a collaborative yarn on so many levels. The way in which the idea was born, turned into reality and even the labels all reflect the sense of teamwork that this yarn encapsulates.
We really hope you enjoy this yarn as much as we enjoyed creating it.
