Description
Henrietta – Fingering/ 4ply yarn is an unusual blend of alpaca and Australian Polwarth sheep. It is beautifully soft yarn is a 80/20 blend of Polwarth (sheep) and alpaca. Its neutral tones makes it great for a range of next to the skin knits. We certainly have select both fibres carefully to provide this yarn with a super-soft luxurious feel whilst beautifully capturing the essence of Western Victoria, the geography, the climate and the heritage.
Fibre:
The polwarth is from Tarndie . The entire journey of this yarn is only 225 kms from farm to yarn, including the scourer in Geelong.
Our alpaca is from Euliyana Alpacas near Ararat.
The Process:
The wool has been scoured to remove the lanolin, but it is not carbonised. This means that it is better for for you and the environment. We wash all of the alpaca fibre with rain water and a low phosphate detergent, therefore you may still find some grass seeds in the yarn.
We have designed this yarn by bringing both fibres together during the process to reflect the ruggedness yet beauty of this area which is what inspired us in the design of this yarn.
All of our yarns are semi-worsted.
Our solar system supplies most of the electricity for our processing.
We want to take care of our property, our land and our animals. We strongly believe in sustainability. That is why we select fibres which are local and naturally beautiful such as for this Henrietta – Fingering/ 4ply yarn. Sustainable, ethical and environmentally friendly aren’t just catch phrases here!
